Tim Smyczek – Danai Udomchoke
These 2 met for the first time earlier this year with Udomchoke winning 6-4 6-0. Smyczek is not a much better grass player than Udomchoke to justify him being such a favourite here.
Sergei Bubka – Charles-Antoine Brezac
Both have been through 2 qualifying matches and I think Bubkas has a little more experience which will help him move on here. He’s played 7 matches here in Newport and won 6 of these. It was in Newport he record his first win on ATP-level.
Olivier Rochus – Go Soeda
Rochus seems in appalling shape going from defeat to defeat but visiting this tournament might help him regain some composure. In 2009 he reached the semifinal and in both 2010 and 2011 he went to the final. He must love to be back.
Sloane Stephens – Heather Watson
The odds on Watson to win at least a set seem more than ok to me, when you consider that these 2 ladies have met each other twice before with Watson winning both. Both matches over 3 sets and the last one was played in april this year.
