Tennis Picks – ATP Washington Round 1

Marco Chiudinelli – Horacio Zeballos
Zeballos is higher ranked, but it’s because of his results on clay, certainly not on any other surface. The last time he played a hard court match was in march which he lost. Before that was in august last year which he lost. And before that in march 2011 which he lost.

It seems then that going against him on hard court could be profitable and Chiudinelli has qualified into this tournament by winning 2 matches so he’s used to the surface unlike Zeballos.

Nicolas Mahut – Richard Berankis
Mahut’s latest match was against…Berankis! Only last week in L.A. where Berankis won in 2 sets. It might seem a bit odd then to go against Berankis here, but;

He had a marvellous run in Los Angeles going all the way through the qualies and into the final winning 7 matches before losing to Querrey.

It could leave a tired Berankis, not least mentally and Mahut has beaten him before, in their first meeting which was last year in july on a similar surface.
