Horse Racing Tips – 3 July 2012 – Hamilton

When it rains it pours (whatever that means?), and all I can say is thank goodness for Sandown next weekend and some quality (and I mean ultra top quality) action at last!

This afternoon I freely admit that I have struggled – usually something leaps off the page be that right or wrong – but this Tuesday looks as difficult as I an remember, or my brain has shrunk even further of course lol?

Hamilton are my venue of choice today and both my bets run in consecutive races, and how about an Olympic feel to the double (even though that was never intended during my selection process)? Jamaican Bolt is my first option in the sprint at 5.00pm and ought to strip a little bit fitter after his first run in ten months at Haydock just over a week ago. Connections did feel he could do himself justice and he was punted accordingly down to 9/4 as the stalls opened, so I doo not expect him to come on in leaps and bounds, but he did look a bit one paced when he needed to quicken, and was puffing quite hard after the race. Top weight this afternoon on soft ground is certainly a concern (I wouldn’t want to hump nine stone twelve around on my back at top speed), but that is because he is the best horse in the race so we shall see.

Doubling up how about Bid For Gold in the 5.30pm?  An appropriately named eight year old, he is clearly not the force he once was (when he was rated in the mid 80’s), and is a bit fragile these days (only the one winning run last season), but showed he still has ability when returning to action after exactly a year (to the day) when a gallant runner up to Cut The Cackle over this course and distance.  Sent off at 16/1 that day, the implication of that price seems to be that he badly needed the run tat day (why else?), and if as expected that run brings him to peak fitness there is every reason to believe he can run well here though I doubt he will start at that sort of price today!
