Horse Racing Tips – 28 July 2012 – Newmarket

Once again we have a very competitive Saturday of horse racing and it will not be easy to guarantee any winners – but we can still have plenty of fun trying as long as we keep our stakes to sensible levels so we can keep on smiling.

Instead of my usual main bet and “other” bet I will have tow equal small bets this Saturday as I cannot decide between them – they may both win or they may both lose, but then that’s why they call it gambling! Both my bets run at Headquarters this afternoon (or Newmarket as it is also known), with the first race that intrigues me the EBF Conditions Stakes due off at 4.35pm.  There may be a small but select field of just the six runners as I write, but four of them are unbeaten after one run, and the other two have both won races. Top yards are represented by the likes of I’m back (Saeed Bin Suroor), Odooj (William Haggas), and Rocky Ground (Roger Varian), any of which could win, but it’s the Mick Channon trained Ollie Olga who caught my eye. She only won a maiden over six furlongs at Newbury on her debut but she quickened up nicely to put the race to bed in a matter of strides, something I like to read about a horse I want to back! Trying to compare the form of various races is never easy and we are rather fumbling around in the dark but she did look like a filly with a lot of potential that day and as she started at a very generous 12/1 it seems reasonable to assume there is plenty of improvement left to come.

My other bet is even more obscure or even stupid with my old friend John Dunlop sadly having a season from hell with just the three winners all season (correct at the time of writing). Some time or other that luck must surely change, and I have a memory like an elephant when it comes to connections comments. Last season Nawwaar ran third on his debut at Ascot behind Moon Pearl with numerous future winners in behind. He showed his inexperience that day but battled like a trooper next time out at Goodwood when he got up late on despite being hampered and having to switch not once but twice during a rough old race.  His return at Newbury was disappointing to put it politely but then as mentioned the stable is out of sorts and he may well have needed the run, though his next run was even worse when twenty-fourth of twenty-nine in the Britannia Stakes at royal Ascot but I still hold a little faith (not a lot), and at a big price (well he should be!), a point thrown away could be worth it, just in case he reverts to being as good as they once thought he was.
