Horse Racing Tips – 7 May 2012 – The Curragh and Beverley

Not a bad weekend I suppose if you are a fan of Aiden O’Brien as he took both English classics with 15/8 favourite Camelot (now 5/4 for the Derby) and supposed second string Homecoming Queen bolting up in the 1000 Guineas under Ryan Moore. Both races were good to watch in their own right but I suspect Camelot could be the one to follow as the mile was clearly his minimum requirement and he should get better the further he goes.

Looking ahead to this Bank Holiday and we have quantity over quality as far as I am concerned and no need to get too carried away just yet with the betting, there are plenty of racing days left in 2012.  Two bets will do for me this afternoon and I have heard that the Ed Walker yard think that Faithfilly is more than good enough to take her maiden based on recent homework. A daughter of Red Clubs out of a Desert King mare she is bred to be a sprinter and cost 25,000 Guineas at the sales (more than I would have expected), so is presumably quite a looker? Forecast to go off at 11/1, she could be a spot of each way value ahead of the 2.25pm at Beverley, though whether she needs the run or not will only become clear when it is all too late.

For the best bet we really need to be sensible enough to cross the sea to Ireland and The Curragh for the return to action of Takar who looked as if he could go on to much better things this season when taking his maiden at Leopardstown last

November. Having had an educational outing here at The Curragh he ran away with his next race by eight lengths, quickening up when asked despite the yielding ground, and although there is a question about whether he can handle this Good to Soft ground, I think he will improve for it and win the Listed Tetrach Stakes at 2.50pm this Monday.
