Scheepers is off to a decent start to the year, winning 4 and losing 3, and it’s certainly worth noting against whom she’s lost.

Her defeats came against Serena Williams, Na Li and Svetlana Kuznetsova but against more average opponents she has been able to succeed, which I’m counting on her to do again today.

Hercog has lost her last 5 matches on the trot, and 9 of her last 11, so you can’t really say her form is brillant.

She won the latest meeting with Scheepers but on clay where Hercog has her best results, while Scheepers has beaten Hercog twice on a hard surface.
