Mardy Fish – Mikhail Youzhny
Fish is the better ranked player these days, but I still think he’s been made to big a favourite here. After all, Youzhny leads him 2-1 in h2h, although it has to be said that Fish had to withdraw in their latest meeting.
Nevertheless, Youzhny seems in good form, and when he is, he’s capable of beating most players including Fish who is playing here for the first time.
Youzhny usually enjoys this tournament having reached the final in 2010, 2007 and the semifinal in 2004 and 2006.
Michaella Krajicek – Alberta Brianti
Neither player is at their best when playing on clay, but both managed to come through the first round and who will move even further?
I’m guessing Krajicek on account of their h2h stats, since the Dutch woman has beaten Brianti soundly in their previous 2 meetings. She won them 6-2 6-0 and 6-1 6-3.
That’s suggests a should we say fairly good grip on this opponent.
Jarmila Gajdosova – Eleni Daniilidou
They’ve never met before but at this level I’m always prone to opposing Daniilidou as she usually finds it difficult to go really deep into a tournament.
Since March 2008 it has happened on only 2 occasions that she’s reached the 3rd round of a WTA-tournament. In contrast Gajdosova has a semifinal from last year to defend here.
