More profit for our followers yesterday and I am hopeful we can add to that this afternoon though better prices would be nice!
Before we get down to the nitty gritty, I was disappointed to read yesterday that French two year old Dabirsim will NOT be heading to Newmarket for our 2000 Guineas and will instead stay at home to go for the French equivalent a week later. I really like this son of Hat Trick who went in to winter quarters unbeaten and I have to admit, I am very surprised the Godolphin cheque book has not been brandished in anger to snap him pup, especially after Frankie Dettori waxed lyrical about him after his last two victories. Personally, I see it as yet another sign that our racing is no longer seen as the crème de al crème to the rest of the World, but then it may also give me an excuse to pop over to Paris to watch him race instead.
Moving on to the racing this afternoon, I rarely bet in Hunter Chases but Simonsberg really ought to prove too good for his rivals in the 4.15pm at Musselburgh. A multiple winner with ten victories under his belt (two under rules and eight in point to points), he cannot quite cut it with the best but back at this standard Class Six grade he should prove a force to reckon with and he will be my main bet this afternoon.
For my other bet, one time decent sprinter Canadian Danehill went some time without a victory (two and a half years or so), thus plummeting down the handicap to a winning mark of 50 which he made the most of on Tuesday when hacking up at Wolverhampton. He has already won four races on the Southwell surface so that should not be a problem and connections are striking while the iron is hot under a six pound penalty rather than wait for him to be reassessed, and I think that looks like a hint worth taking?
