Horse Racing Tips – Monday 13 February – Wolverhampton

Another decent weekend saw our main bet (three pointer) scoot up by 22 lengths but whether we can do something even remotely similar on a Monday is a moot point with this weather creating shocks and more all-weather dross than I can shake a whip at!

Latest news as I write is that Catterick have now been added to Plumpton as no shows this Monday leaving me with a single card from Wolverhampton so have pity please?

Mark Johnston still has in string in decent enough form as far as I can see (with five winners, and five places from 20 runners in the past fortnight), and he has another unraced but well bred maiden to go in Madrilene, a daughter of El Prado who was with Mahmood Al Zarooni and Godolphin, but now runs in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, so do watch out for green and red, not Godolphin blue. The fact that she stayed with Godolphin for so long implies she has shown some talent and although now cast out that is not unusual as they focus on attacks on Group races around the world with a Wolverhampton maiden pretty low on the list! According to my sources she has stamina in abundance and with her dirt track breeding (well, in my view), this mile and a half on polytrack should be ideal, though be warned, who knows how much her inexperience will count against her here?

Backing a horse stepping up in class is not always the most sensible of options but Roedean has been a revelation of late all be it in sellers and claimers, and thoroughly serves her chance at something a bit more valuable.  The fact that this daughter of Oratorio has won four races this season and placed in five others yet has only amassed £16,000 or so is a sad indication of the racing scene here at present (it costs £24,000 to keep a horse in training for a year), but that is not our problem as they look to add to that figure and I think she can take this rise in class in her stride. She won easing up last time out and has only been put up three ponds yet carries top weight here (which says a lot about the race), and I am a lot more worried about the physical weight of nine stone seven on her back than I am about any of her rivals this afternoon.

Other than that, I do not have a lot to report today with no racing worthy of a mention elsewhere (if you count an all-weather bumper card from Southwell then you are sadder than I am lol?) but Cheltenham is creeping up on us so watch this space for updates as and when the news breaks!
