The weather has interfered again this afternoon but Kempton put on an “interesting” card of all-weather bumpers which will be even more difficult to call than normal with some runners looking for a win, and the vast majority looking for a run to keep them on the go as they build up toward their real targets.
Nicky Henderson has some of the best facilities in the business at Seven Barrows but even he is struggling to keep them ticking over in the snow so is mob handed here but which ones are fit enough to win is the massive question. Oscar Whisky does look to outclass his opponents in the 5.25pm but will be a silly price to do so and cannot be a serious suggestion, leaving me to look elsewhere for an option. French import Trozulon has always been held in some regard at Seven Barrows since an impressive win in the provinces, which he followed with a quality third to multiple winner Keys at Cheltenham. He has been off the track for over a year which is presumably the only reason he is as big a price as he is but he has the ability to quicken from off a pace, and really ought to have a lot too much class for these.
At Wolverhampton, I do like the chances of Queen Of Denmark in the mile and a half (ish) handicap due off at 7.10pm. Mark Johnston seems to have his string in fine fettle (unless I back them?), and this immaculately bred daughter of Kingmambo seems sure to improve race after race as a four year old in which case her rating of 79 may prove to be pretty generous long term at least?
Away from tomorrow we need to remember the late great Josh Gifford today, a true gentleman and horseman to boot who trained near me in deepest darkest Findon. Many a punt was landed on his runners, and although he will always be best remembered for Grand National winner Aldaniti, Deep Sensation will be the one for me, the winner of thirteen races and a class act I was happy to go over a cliff backing. R.I.P. Mr Gifford, if there is a heaven you have many a story to tell, and my condolences go out to his family and friends – the racing world is clearly a poorer place without him.
