This Monday is one is pretty quiet here in the UK with just the two meetings, one over jumps from Plumpton) and one on the all-weather (from Wolverhampton).
A mere fourteen races leaves me with precious little to play with but we ought to go close to collecting if we stick with the in form stables over the jumps at least, which neatly leads me to the Emma Lavelle trained Chariot Charger who has his second race of the season over fences at Plumpton in the two and a half mile novice chase due off at 1.40pm. The drop back in trip is interesting for the eight year old who has won over this trip, all be it over hurdles, though his chasing bow this season was over three miles at Uttoxeter where he made virtually all before repelling all challengers. If he can get to the front here he has a favourite’s chance all be it at shortish odds and on a difficult day could be the most likely winner.
If you fancy a risky bet (sometimes you just feel the need – well, I do if you don’t), then have a closer look at the Peter Chapple-Hyam trained Flaming Ferrari who will never live up to her name unfortunately but has looked as if she may be capable of winning a race. Her Newmarket based handler is nobody’s fool so I do wonder why she isn’t put in to an easy maiden, and the only answer I can think of is that connections think she is well weighted and can win a better race? If that is the case then she could go well at a big price and will be an each way option on the day if the price is right!
Looking at the latest racing news I was surprised to see the Ballydoyle camp announce that So You Think is most likely to contest the Dubai World Cup at the end of March. The implication is a massive thawing in relations between tow of the main powerhouses of world racing in Godolphin and Ballydoyle which has been on the cards for some time now and can only be of benefit to the true racing fan. I was concerned that the richest race in the World was failing to attract the quality of runners needed to justify the hype, but if the ex Australian turns up for an Arabian Night then his group one class could well be enough to see him through, though I would prefer some evidence he can handle the tapeta surface which is my only real concern as he seems to be the best form horse so far talked about, and by some margin.
