Saturday 10th December – Joining a Gamble

Tony McCoy recently went passed a 150 winners for the season, but commented that he wasn’t having many Saturday winners. Well tomorrow he partners Sunnyhillboy and it seems there might be a J P McManus gamble occuring for this 8-y-o trained by Jonjo O’Neill.  The horse which was available earlier in the week at 15.00, is now only half those odds and I think he should be supported.

Sunnyhillboy reappeared last month when given a gentle introduction in a hurdle race, but his form at Cheltenham is very good with a previous win and two placed efforts and it could be his time again tomorrow.  It is the two placed efforts in this race (Spinal Research Handicap Chase) and at last years’ festival which provides support that this horse is still value at 8.00.

In both races Sunnyhillboy finished just behind Great Endeavour, who was also the winner of last months’ Paddy Power.  At the 2010 festival he was beaten one and a quarter lengths when giving 2lbs away whilst in this race last year he was beaten 6 lengths in reciept of 3lbs. Tomorrow Great Endeavour has to try and concede 15lbs, but more importantly Sunnyhillboy will have the support of the Champion jockey A P McCoy.  McCoy  will be fasting to get down to 10st 4lbs and I think his efforts will be worthwhile.  Sunnyhillboy should be backed at 8.00 to win the 14:30 at Cheltenham with Bet365.

In the Stanjames.com International Hurdle 35 minutes later, Clerk’s Choice is an interesting runner.  From The Stables‘ trainer Oliver Sherwood’s house burnt down last month and he is due some good fortune.  The 5-y-o gelding was massively impressive when winning over course and distance just over a year ago, first-time out on similar going as he will encounter tomorrow.  The horse was then not disgraced in the Champion Hurdle in March when finishing sixth only just behind Menorah the winner of this race last year and vying for favouritism for tomorrow’s renewal.  In receipt of 4lbs I’m hopeful that a first time out Clerk’s Choice can reverse that form and bring a smile to Oliver’s face.

Clerk’s Choice should be backed each way at 15.00 with Ladbrokes 50£ in Free bets! for the 15:05 Cheltenham.
