Breeders’ Cup – Juvenile races

Having had a near miss with an Australian horse in the Melbourne Cup, I plan on staying faithful to the locals in this weekends’ Breeders Cup Juvenile races.  The Fillies and Colts events are always competitive affairs, but one trainer won three of the four juvenile races last year.

Todd Pletcher is that trainer and it looks as if he could be successful again.  In the Fillies turf (Friday 20:50) race he has two runners, Sweet Cat and Stopshoppingmaria, with the latter appearing to have the better chance.  Like Pletcher’s winner last year, she was second in her prep race, My Miss Aurelia putting alot of daylight between herself and Stopshoppingmaria.  However, that winner is hot favourite for the Juvenile fillies dirt contest and Stopshoppingmaria is good each way value on the turf at 11.00 with Ladbrokes.

In the colts’ turf version the following evening, Pletcher runs Finale who has had an impressive build up to the race with three consecutive wins. His draw of 13 is not ideal, but Pluck was successful last year from a similar wide berth and with the experienced John Velazquez on board Finale will have every assistance from the saddle.  At 9.00 with Coral 30£ Free bet!, Finale should be backed to win the 18:02 at Churchill Downs on Saturday evening.
