Novak Djokovic – Rafael Nadal 1
When you pull off a stunt like Djokovic did in the semifinal against Federer it must be very, very easy to feel undefeatable. Down 2 sets to love, coming back to make it 2-2, down 3-5 in the 5 set with Federer to serve and then coming out of that predicament as well to win the set 7-5. That speaks volumens for Djokovic’ mental state at the moment and that’s one reason I can’t go against him tonight.
Another is his grip on Nadal which he has shown time and again this year. They have met in 5 finals, and Djokovic has won them all. Twice on hard court, twice on clay and in the final at Wimbledon. It left Nadal obviously frustrated after Wimbledon, admitting that he found it hard to find a flaw in Djokovic’ game.
This is the Djoker’s third US Open final, only 12 months ago he lost to Nadal. I believe he’ll make it third time lucky and add to his already fabolous year.
Another bet to consider in this final is going for no tie break. Just like we did in these columns during the Wimbledon-final. There was no tie break in that match just as there has been no tie break in their last 3 meetings. They have met 7 times in 2010 and 2011, playing 20 sets, with only 1 tie break along the way. They have met 6 times at a Grand Slam-tournament, playing only 1 tie break, and there was no tie break when they met in last years final. These odds are quite simply too high.
