Euro 2012 Qualifier, Group G
England-Montenegro
12th October 20.00
The two unbeaten teams in Group G match up at Wembley as England taking on Montenegro as qualification to Euro 2012 continues. The last round of international matches before the “winter break’ will give us all a good indication as to how the group is shaping.
At the moment Group G is looking like a 2 horse race, with one of these two teams to meet at Wembley heading for top spot, the other being in the play-off come the end of qualification in 12 months time.
Latest news: Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney will again be spearheading the front line but Darren Bent has been ruled out. The Sunderland striker was tipped to start at Wembley tomorrow night after breaking his international duck in the win over Switzerland, but the striker will miss the clash with a groin injury. Peter Crouch is now heading for a start, with Bolton striker Kevin Davies poised to make his England debut from the bench.
England teams news isn’t the best reading for Fabio Capello as a host of names are injured, but Rio Ferdinand will again pull on the captain’s armband when he makes a welcomed return tomorrow. With John Terry out injured, Ferdinand will partner Manchester city’s Joleon Lescott at the heart of England’s defence. Steven Gerrard took the news about the Captain’s armband like a professional player should, even though he performed heroics in his last outings for England.
The first 2 matches have been plain sailing for a resurgent England, who are trying to forget an awful World Cup campaign. 7 goals and only 1 conceded means Capello’s are on top form.
Watch out for new hero, Adam Johnson who has scored in both victories and is also playing well for his club.
Montenegro come to Wembley as group leaders with 3 victories and maximum points. All games have finished 1-0 so a tight solid outfit might just frustrate England in front of their home crowd.
All eyes up front will be on Mirko Vucinic who scored the winner against Switzerland and Wales. The big striker is being touted by both Manchester clubs, and the match winner from the latest Rome derby is in fine form and can cause problems for the English defence.
Against Switzerland the guests lined up with a 4-5-1 formation, and Vucinic alone up front struggled with only 3 atempts on goal. I don’t expect things to change much against a solid England team who will be out to impress, but being group leaders mean there is quality in this team – and Vucinic has all the confidence in the world.
Is there any value to be found at Wembley? Well maybe not the result, but if you look around you are able to find some interesting betting options…
